Good day, hope all is well dear readers. I would like to start of by saying thank you, as after my last post went up I surpassed 2,000 reads! It means a lot to me because not only am I writing about my life and improving my writing skills in the process, but you guys are actually enjoying my work. I have even converted the majority of the soccer team into avid readers and for that I am proud.
I spoke to you last on saturday after two wins for our team and we had a game against Barry (#10) that night. I predicted a 2-0 win and that was so close to being correct, if it wasn't for some of the worst refereeing I've witness in soccer (football).
We went ahead with a goal from Dominic Cutrofello and we were dominating the game. Then a high ball was played up to Ryan Griffin (Shock), but Barry’s Goalkeeper had trouble with the wet conditions and completely missed the catch. This enabled Ryan to retrieve the ball and tap it in. 2-0! against Barry! in the first half! An amazing start, that was until the referee blew his whistle for what he described as “Contact to draw a foul”
As you can see, the pictures clearly indicate that the keeper had a nightmare and simply missed the ball. I have two theories as to why the referee gave this call, 1: He Is an Alumni of Barry (English people that means he studied and graduated there). Or 2: he just felt sorry for the keeper. Its decisions like those which can ruin a game, and in fact Barry went on to score a penalty and the game finished 1-1. Anyway we knew we had put the work in as a team and we were cheated so we went out as a team and celebrated. It finally felt like the team were bonding.
Monday was probably the worst day I've had since I arrived. It started with me struggling to wake up at 9am and getting ready only to realize I didn't have class until 1pm. T-mobile then decided they didn't want to let me use my phone so I spent the next 3 hours trying to get re-connected to no avail. My overall mood was just so low and I considered changing my flight home to that afternoon but my roommate Runar, who you have all met in the interview told me we all have days like this. I agreed at regrettably muttered “How much worse can this day get” O, did I found out all right! As that night I was told some hysterically odd news which for the sake of a few people prides I will not disclose on here, but feel free to message me individually for the scoop.
Anyway, I reflected on what happened and knew that I couldn't let stupid things get me down. The next few days were complimented by us actually playing matches in training! we couldn't believe it! Wednesday night was a weird night as a group of people with pitch forks turned up to my door hunting for a team mate of mine who by the sounds of things had just killed 12 toddlers. Fortunately he had not, he was just being a man.
Yesterday we played Thomas. A lower league side who on paper we should have demolished. Unfortunately we didn't play on paper, we played on grass, and after being 3-0 up in the 78th minute, Thomas went on to score four goals In ten minutes and steal the game. I was absolutely speechless along with everyone on the bleachers. I don't know if it was down to the fact that we totally underestimated the opposition, or a spree of cocky substitutions. Its not healthy for us to go into games completely bad mouthing the other team. Saying how they can’t play, because It only comes back to bite us in the butt. We have to play each game like It’s the championship final otherwise this will keep happening.
Another team party last night but It just didn't feel right to be out. We didn't deserve to be out having fun. The team should have just reflected on the loss. A night with minimal talking points quickly escalated into one that Im sure is going to have some effect on the team this week. All I'm saying Is I don't think I could trust some teammates with my I-pod, let alone my Mrs.
I just hope we can play our game and leave domestics out of it. Because that is the last thing we need. Two games midweek and one on Saturday which are all must wins, so we will see if our team Is bigger than a couple of individuals. Just remember, people forgive, but they never forget. Have a great week friends, and I’ll speak to you all next week. Remember, your comments, support and feedback are appreciated.
Thanks for reading,
Ty.
