Hello Again, I Hope you all had a great week/weekend and your heads aren't hurting too bad. I have always hated in the past when I have heard people say “Man, this week went so quick” And I'm like “No its the same 168 hours as every week”. But honestly, this week went super quick!
It started with a cheeky little movie in my English class then a bit of banter when an unnamed player (Jarrett Link) believed the flag on his shirt was the dutch flag even though I had told him it was French, and then practice. The mood was a predominantly sad but that’s understandable since we had not won a game yet. But we had a surprisingly up-beat session apart from when we were told it takes twenty freshmen to pump up some footballs.
As the week progressed we engaged in a little Fifa 12 action and I taught a few lessons, there would be one more apology but Anthony Carabotta’s pride got in the way of his typing skills.
Anyway I don't know if the coaches have read my blog, or have generally just realized that to win football matches we must play football. Because this week we integrated small sided games into our practice, and thats the kind of inter-squad competition we need.
Following on from that I am so happy to say that yesterday we beat Lynn (#16 in the country) 1-0 at our home ground. A great atmosphere from the fans, mixed with sheer determination from our players resulted in our first win of the season.
I was merely a spectator in the stands and yet I felt as if I had scored the winner when that final whistle blew. I get the impression that the team are really bonding, and this one win could create a snowball effect of great results. Luckily our next run of games are at home and I believe with our fans, friends and family behind us, we could turn our season around.
After the game we were told by our coach to go out and celebrate. Well actually he said “Go get f#!ked up! I’m gonna run your asses off on Monday” so we all attended one of the players houses for one of those parties that all you English kids fantasies about. Red cups, beautiful girls, beer pong, and terrible music.
It was a great night and I'm looking forward to a good week of practice with the lads and two wins this week. We play Florida Southern on Wednesday and Barry on Saturday, two games that I'm certain we can win, especially if we have “The Rock”. Aka Gregg Sasser at centre back.
I hope you all enjoy your week, and it goes as quickly as mine did.
Thanks for reading,
Ty
