THIS IS SPARTA!!!!

After completing my first 2 full practice days here at UT, I am assured of 2 things. 1: I have picked the right college, and 2: running is hard!!

My day started off with the obnoxious sound of the Blackberry alarm clock at 5am, there was an initial battle of mind and body as I attempted to direct my legs to get out of bed, they obviously knew what was in store.

After 2 bananas and a shot of Gatorade I made my way down to the 'soccer' field. Our first challenge was to run the "Cooper Test" which requires each student athlete to get through 8 laps (2 miles, 30,000 meters) of the athletic track in 12 minutes or less. The coach set a rule that we must complete 2 out of the 3 upcoming fitness tests to obtain our training gear. I finished 3rd out of 23 freshman in a time of 11:51……Ecstatic was not the word……The vocable I would put forth is 'exhausted'!

By my 6th lap, I was pretty sure my body was not actually inhaling any oxygen, even though it was roughly 6:10am and the sun wasn't out, the humidity made breathing in feel like consuming fire. Mix that with the pitter patter of feet behind me, and the sound of a grown man exhaling down my neck and it makes a pretty relaxing monday morning.

Today (Tuesday) I woke up with my legs feeling like they had been secured in a vice all night, muscles tighter than a nun's……

We ran the second of three tests today "The 300 Spartans Test" Yeah I know, I almost crapped my pants too. The reason behind the name is in fact that our team is nicknamed "The Tampa Spartans" Pretty dope huh!?

I am remarkably glad to say I passed the test which involved non stop sprinting, one 120 yard sprint, then four 40 yard sprints followed by six 20 yard sprints……that was one set……we done five -__-

So I received my kit, and went on to have a successful afternoon session, scoring in a 11-a side inter-squad friendly.

Ive only been a resident of dear old Tampa Florida for 4 days now, but it has felt like months, its phenomenal the amount you can get done by waking up at 5am, I'm practically finished by 9:30am

But these few days have been enjoyable, and I'm sure this week when all of the other non athlete students check in for college will be exceedingly pleasant, I'm going to pick a bed by the pool and progress to scout for vulnerable freshman girls who don't know how to use the elevator yet.

I hope to be posting again on Friday, if I am able to drag my 10 stone quads to my laptop that is.

Thank you for reading
